Geography in KS3

At Dhahran British Grammar School the emphasis is on a course of study in geography that stimulates an interest in and a sense of wonder about places. It helps young people make sense of a complex and dynamically changing world.

It explains where places are, how places and landscapes are formed, how people and their environment interact, and how a diverse range of economies, societies and environments are interconnected. It builds on pupils’ own experiences to investigate places at all scales, from the personal to the global.

Geography is a mandatory subject across Key Stage 3 and we follow closely the syllabus content provided by the National Curriculum for Engliand that we try and make as exciting as possible. You will:

  • Learn all about maps.
  • Campaign to save the rainforests.
  • Learn how to spend $50 million dollars of aid to make the world a better place!
  • Find out why real volcanoes knock spots off anything you see in the movies.
  • Fine tune your equipment list for an expedition across Africa – find out how climate and conditions determine your choices.
  • Look at the causes and effects of flooding.
  • Learn all about cold places on our planet - it makes a cool change from our own hot desert here in Saudi Arabia.

We hope that by studying Geography it will inspire pupils to become global citizens by exploring their own place in the world, their values and their responsibilities to other people, to the environment and to the sustainability of the planet.
