Science

Science at Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3, we follow Collins KS3 Science course. This course is closely linked to the new KS3 Science Framework and QCA Programme of Study. Collins KS3 Science provides Exciting Science for all Levels, including full support in How Science Works and Assessment for Learning, to ensure the right progression for all levels and complete success at Key Stage 3.

In year 7 we will look in detail at the following topics:

  • Organisms, Behaviour and Health
    • Cells, Tissues and Organs
    • Reproduction
  • Chemical and Material Behaviour
    • Working in a Laboratory
    • Particles and Reactions
  • Energy, Electricity and Forces
    • Energy Transfers
    • Forces and Speed
  • The Environment, Earth and Universe
    • Classification and Food Webs
    • Weathering and Fossils

In year 8 we will look in detail at the following topics:

  • Organisms, Behaviour and Health
    • Keeping Healthy
    • Studying Diseases
  • Chemical and Material Behaviour
    • Separating Mixtures
    • Atoms, Elements and Compounds
  • Energy, Electricity and Forces
    • Magnetism
    • Sound and Heat
  • The environment, Earth and Universe
    • Life and Death
    • Space

In year 9 we will look in detail at the following topics:

  • Organisms, Behaviour and Health
    • Drug and Behaviour
    • Variation
  • Chemical and Material Behaviour
    • Chemical Patterns
    • Chemical Reactions
  • Energy, Electricity and Forces
    • Pressure, Forces and Moments
    • Energy Transfers
  • The environment, Earth and Universe
    • Humans and the Environment
    • Geology

We will also spend some time revisiting some of the concepts studied in Years 7 and 8. Assessment takes place throughout the year using topic tests and end of year examinations.
