Maths

There are two maths teachers at Dhahran British Grammar School - Mrs D Merza and Mrs J. Chambers

The aim of our teaching in mathematics is to enable students to develop their mathematical skills and understanding to the limit of their capabilities and to equip them for the demands that lie ahead of them in adult life, in employment and study. The courses seek to develop an appreciation and enjoyment of Mathematics, to raise their awareness of its importance and to contribute to the student's overall development.

In KS 4

In Years 10- and 11 the course is focused upon the requirement of IGCSE. Candidates will be entered as appropriate, for IGCSE at the Extended or Core Level. The IGCSE examinations consists of two papers, a short answer paper consisting of 35% of the marks and a long answer with 65%.

Appropriate use of technology such as calculators and computers is encouraged at all levels with a view that pupils should become familiar with their potential.

Practice and consolidation is an extremely important part of any Mathematics course thus all year groups receive 2 x 45 minute homework exercises a week.

Crystal Maze

The Maths Department sponsors the Mathmematical Crystal Maze and Maths Fun Week in school, a time of team games and puzzles.
