In Key Stage 3, pupils are taught a range of musical activities that
integrate performing, composing and appraising. They work on their
own, in groups of different sizes and as a class. They use ICT
to create, manipulate and refine sounds. They work with a range
of live and recorded music from different times and cultures including
music from the British Isles, the ‘Western classical’ tradition, ‘Eastern
classical’ tradition, folk, jazz and popular genres, and by well-known
composers and performers. Lessons combine theory, instrumental
performance and musical analysis.
There are two school concerts per year in which the majority of students participate.
Key Stage 3 pupils are also given the opportunity to join the school band. This program is offered as an after school activity.
