We trek along the banks of the river Dudh Kosi. It is crossed with suspension bridges tied with prayer flags.
The trek to Namche Bazaar at 3440 m will be quite tough. The trail is steep and there are many switchbacks, but we will get our first view of Mt Everest. We will trek in the morning and after lunch you will get a chance to shop in the Bazaar or market. There are stalls run by local Sherpas and by Tibetan traders.
We will spend a rest day in Namche Bazaar to acclimatize.
The village houses the Sagamartha National Park Headquarters. The park was set up to stop deforestation caused by the collection of wood for household and trekking fires. It also helps to preserve rare plant and animal species such as the Himalayan Musk Deer. At the park headquarters there is an exhibition of photographs and information about the park.
The next day, if we get up early enough (er ... for sunrise) there are great views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam.
There is a sherpa museum in the village and this will be an excellent time to get to know more about the sherpa culture.
We want you to put together a small album of photographs about your life at home and your family, so that you can share something of your culture with the porters and people you meet.
