Tengboche is a monastery at 3837m. Established in the early 1900s it was the first celibate monastery in the Solu-Khumbu region.
Tengboche is well known for the masked dances that are held there to celebrate the completion of ten days of prayers for the good of all beings.
The monastery is an important part of local sherpa culture.
