This will be a challenging trek and it is therefore important that students prepare well for it. It is vital that all participants are very fit before departure. Trekking might only be going for a long walk in the mountains, but altitude, rough ground and isolation make it a more serious undertaking.
Students should visit their General Practitioner several months before departure to check which vaccinations are required and discuss any possible health problems.
The expedition leader has good mountain first aid training and our insurance policy covers evacuation costs in the unlikely event that we should encounter an emergency.
The main health concerns in Nepal are diarrhoea, respiratory infections and exotic tropical infections.
You can minimize the risk of becoming ill by obtaining proper immunizations and taking care of yourself on the trek.
Possible vaccinations/immunizations that your doctor might suggest include:
Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid Fever, Meningococcal Meningitis, Polio, Rabies, Tetanus & Diphtheria, Cholera, Yellow Fever (if coming from Africa or S America), Tuberculosis.
Appropriate care and attention will be taken with food and water to minimize the risk of infections.
