I am delighted to be able to inform you that, on 24 November 2009, we received notification that our school has been awarded CIS Accreditation. This is the culmination of over two years of preparation involving a thorough self study of all areas of the school’s functions and a CIS Team Visit last March. It is a process that has involved people from the wider school community as well as teaching and non teaching staff looking at the service we offer to students, family and the community.
The award of accreditation is recognition that as a school we value the views of others and are willing to accept advice on areas for improvement. It shows that as with all successful schools we are seeking to improve our performance in curricular and other areas and not just stand still or live off our reputation.
As a school with a growing international student population the recognition of CIS Accreditation is something that has value for all members of the school community. Expatriate parents in particular are given few guidelines on how best to select the most appropriate school for their child’s needs. CIS Accreditation provides parents with assurances that a school has been benchmarked successfully alongside quality schools from all over the world. It is indeed true that at DBGS we are increasingly keen to compare our performance as a school with good International Schools worldwide and not just UK schools as we feel that this is a more realistic comparison.
The recommendations that accompany the Accreditation will allow us as a school to identify and prioritise areas for school improvement over the next five years. To everyone involved in the process I offer my thanks for their efforts. Together I think we should celebrate this success and look forward to the exciting developments that lie ahead for DBGS and the benefits that will bring to all concerned.
Once again thank you for your continued support during this process and may I take this opportunity on behalf of all the staff to wish you and your families a happy Eid holiday.
Best regards
Ian Jones
