Charlie Webster, Design Technology Teacher

A letter from Mr Webster

Dear Parents and Families:

I am the new Design Technology teacher at Dhahran British Grammar School. My name is Mr. Webster and I will be the techie man this year.

This will be my 15th year in teaching. After working in engineering for many years I decided to become a Design Technology teacher. I trained in Scotland (where all the best engineers come from, I have to say that as I am Scottish after all) where I had the grand title of “see that Mr. Webster he’s oor (sic) techie teacher”. That was the good thing they said about me - some of the other things I couldn’t write here!
I worked in Scotland for five years in a rather posh sounding school with the name of Monifieth High School. If there are any golfers out there, the school is five miles from the finest golf course in the world, namely Carnoustie. After five years of teaching there I moved to the sunny climes of Abu Dhabi for a few years and then I moved to the beautiful country of Brunei Darussalam where I taught for four years until I arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to teach in this hallowed establishment.

I have only been here a few weeks but everyone has made me feel welcome and I have settled in really quickly.

A special thank you must go to the pupils I have taught. They are a fantastic group of people and it is a real pleasure to teach them.

I must impart a little anecdote to finish off and note the differences between the pupils here and the pupils I taught in Scotland. I once observed a young boy (year 8) sawing another pupil’s model in half. He was half way through the said act it seemed a shame to stop him as he was obviously enjoying himself so much. After he finished his dastardly deed I had to ask him the reason for his action. I quote “Tommy why did you cut Brian’s model in half”? The reply? “Mr. Webster, I am going to give you the stock answer to that question . . . . . it wasnae me”. After a witty response like that, you try keeping a straight face and admonishing him.

That is enough of me, so I would like to finish by saying that I am looking forward to many happy years here in Dhahran British Grammar School and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Best regards,

Charlie Webster
