Year 8 Science Lesson
Welcome to the start of another busy month at Dhahran British Grammar School. This month culminates in a visit from the Council of International Schools Accreditation Team. Eighteen months ago Dr Gerry Percy visited school and concluded that DBGS was in a good position to proceed to the next stage of the Accreditation Process. Since then staff, students, parents and Board members have been involved in a detailed self study of all aspects of school beginning with a review of our own Philosophy and Objectives. The Mission and Beliefs statement is at the core of everything we do in school and can be seen on our Website and many parts of the school.
During their visit the C.I.S.Team will visit classes and speak to students, staff, parents and ISG representatives, many of whom were involved in the self study process. Our hope is that all our strengths will be recognised and just as importantly recommendations made as to how we can improve on our weaknesses. I look forward to reporting back to you next month.
The International Week has become an important part of the school calendar and beginning 8th November will be a week full of classroom activities that celebrate the international nature of our school community. It promises to be a very colourful week and we hope that some of you will be able to contribute or simply come and watch the parade on Wednesday 12th November.
We had a great response to our request for Parent Class Representatives. Virtually all the classes will have a Representative that will help facilitate parental involvement and communication between home and school. I will shortly be arranging to meet with all the parents that kindly volunteered.
I don’t think I could finish this message without saying something about the recent trip to Barcelona. Mr Snieder, Mr Stott and Mrs Prudden accompanied students from Key Stage 3 and 4 for what proved to be a hugely enjoyable experience for all concerned. Parents were able to keep up with events in Barcelona through a daily blog on our Website, this contained a diary written by staff and students as well a whole series of photographs giving a feel of what the students must have been experiencing. The amount of organisation and preparation required for such a trip is immense. As a school we place high value on such trips and it is a shame that two of our other trips have had to be cancelled due to low numbers interested. We will continue to offer International visits and we will be speaking to parents and students to gain their views as to why some are far more popular than others.
Finally you are aware that most of our communication and celebration of school events is done via our Website. This gives us the opportunity to add details on a daily basis and includes photographs and in some cases sound. Our monthly Newsletter can therefore be updated daily rather than simply published at the end of the month. We will however continue to send some information in paper form as we currently do.
Thank you for your continued support.
