Ilness and attendance

Children need to be healthy to learn.  Please keep your child home if s/he has:

  • Fever 100F or greater
  • Vomiting within the past 24 hours
  • Diarrhea within the past 24 hours
  • Frequent, uncontrolled coughing 
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Communicable disease, for example, impetigo, conjunctivitis, chickenpox

Your child will be sent home from school if s/he has any of the following:

  • Fever 100F or greater
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Unexplained rash
  • Potential communicable disease

A child may be sent home for other reasons at the discretion of the school nurse after discussion with the parent.

Medication at school

Students will not be allowed to carry any medication on their person.  The school nurse at the nurses’ office stores and administers all medications.  If your child needs to take medication, prescription or non-prescription, during the school day:

  • Label the medication clearly with your child’s NAME and CLASS
  • A note from the parent granting permission for the medication to be administered must include child’s NAME, CLASS, DOSE of medication and TIME of administration.
