The Parent Volunteer Group is the representative parent organisation at the Dhahran British Grammar School. We have existed for many years and were previously known as the Parent Support Group.
The group exists to encourage parental involvement in school and to raise funds to enhance our children’s education.
All parents are invited to take part in PVG, new faces each year, no cliques, often just a small dedicated team. Some people commit to attending regular meetings and may wish to form a formal committee; others prefer to be approached to help with individual events and activities. We value input, innovation and ideas from parent’s experiences at other schools. Benefits of volunteering with the PVG: Spend time on campus getting to know how the school operates. Enjoy seeing the children having fun at our regular organised events such as the Walkathon, Winter Grotto (with seasonal visitor) and Spring Fair. The opportunity to share any practical skills with the school, whether assisting with classroom activities (e.g. mounting work, cutting, preparation, baking or reading) or helping with drama productions (e.g. costumes, make up and organising costume cupboards). Invitation to attend regular meetings; where the school welcomes input from parents. Formation of a committee to raise and discuss issues and ideas and to liaise with school staff. Our main contact is Mr John Power, the Deputy Head; although representatives from other Key Stages are also welcome to attend each meeting. There is a daily bus (bookable through school receptionist) available at 11.30 hrs to return volunteers to their homes. PARENT VOLUNTEER GROUP 2006/2007 It has been a very busy year for the PVG. They have been involved in running the Walkathon, Winter Grotto, raising monies for class parties and the Year 6 leavers presentation but were also responsible for the massive undertaking of the Spring Fair. This year it was bigger and better than ever raising almost SR21,000 most of which is being redirected into school. Thanks to all the monies raised this year the PVG have been able to allocate monies to every Keystage. Foundation and Key Stage One Will be receiving child-friendly digital cameras designed especially to be used by smaller children. Key Stage Two Are having a couple of room makeovers with carpets and large comfy cushions. The changing rooms team from the BBC are booked to come out and advise but there may be trouble with their visas Monies were also provided earlier in the year for a DVD/Video copy machine which has meant many decaying tapes have been rescued in the nick of time! Key Stage Three Will be receiving some hi-tech equipment in the form of two TVs and a DVD player. In addition an A3 colour scanner for the DT department. Key Stage Four A donation for Basketball kits for both the boys and girls teams is being provided The remainder of the KS4 monies will go to purchasing some Data logging sensors for use within Science and Geography. The PVG have been able also to provide a SR1000 donation to the Duke of Edinburgh to purchase of camping cooking equipment. All of these items are in addition to the school parties and trips they support all year as well as the presentation dictionaries they have so generously provided to all the students moving from Year 6 to the Senior School next year. The PVG meets roughly once a month and does so much for the school year. At the moment it is a small dedicated group but they would like to welcome anyone interested in being part of the committee or even offering help occasionally at some of the events. Anyone interested should contact brparents @isgdh.org to find out more information.
