A school yearbook provides many hours of entertainment when the pages are turned and we start to “remember when”!! As many of the families at the school are expat families, it is not uncommon for there to be yearbooks from schools attended around the world. DBGS has in the past contributed to this collection and traditionally the Year Book Editors have been staff members. This year the Parent Volunteer Group committee has invited students, parents and staff to share the huge load of producing a publication such as this and get involved to create a book filled with special memories.
The proposal of a Year Book After School Activity run by Jacomine Lemoine (PVG Rep) was explained to the KS3/4 students early in January and soon after an ASA group consisting of 12 students was formed. The group meet on Sundays and have so far discussed issues such as the theme, layout designs as well as allocating the tasks of collecting photographic material from the various year groups, after school activities and special events. This is an ideal opportunity for the students to learn new computer / photographic skills, team work and responsibility. Students from the lower years will have a chance to contribute through their year groups.
A parent/ staff committee was formed to tackle the many of the other tasks in hand, collecting and compiling information, printing issues, advertising and sponsorship, proof reading, to mention a few.
This is a publication for the community by the community and contributions from everyone in one form or another have been invited. The most recent being the Front and Back Cover Design Competition and the opportunity to send in your own photographic “special moments’. The winners to the competition will be announced shortly and the committee will start work on selecting some of those special moments to be included in the book.
There is a lot of work is taking place behind the scenes and you will be kept well informed over the coming weeks of the progress being made , page sponsorship and book sales / orders by means of flyers the newsletter and on the website. This will be a hard cover colour publication.
